Eine liebe Freundin hat von einer Amerika Reise auf Anfrage tütenweise Kool Aid Getränkepuler (ohne Zucker) mitgebracht und gemeinsam haben wir uns daran gemacht, mit diesem Zauberzeug Wolle zu färben. Prozedere ware ganz einfach. Pulver in Wasser auflösen, Essig dazu, Wolle damit beträufeln oder darin einweichen und in Frischhaltfolie verpackt in die Mikrowelle. Die Ergebnisse waren extrem farbenfroh und der Geruch des Getränkepulver hing noch tagelang in der Luft. :-) Ergebnisse von oben nach unten: Neuseelandwolle im Kardenband, in die Lösung getaucht; La Plata Wolle mit Farbflüssigkeit beträufelt; fertiges Kammgarn Nadelstärke 3 bis 4, mit den verschiedenen Farben beträufelt. | A good friend of mine brought a bag full of Kool Aid back from her last trip to the Unites States. Together we set out to dye some yarn and wool rovings. Like all food colors the process was easy. Vinegar and the microwave oven took care of fixating the color to the wool. We had so much much sprinkling the colors on the yarn. Boy, that particular Kool Aid smell hang in the air for days :-) Results from top to bottom: carded Newzealand wool, immersed into dye bath; La Plata wool (rather yellowish colour), dye solution sprinkled on roving; commercial spun yarn, different color solutions sprinkled on the yarn

Neuseeland Lamm | New Zealand Lambs Wool

Vor zwei Wochen fielen 200 gr weiße Neuseeland-Lammwolle (im Flies) einem Färberausch zum Opfer. Ich habe mich durch unterschiedlichste Kombinationen Ostereierfarbe durchprobiert, um mal herauszufinden, welche Farben mit den Färbetabletten machbar sind. Man kann nicht nur leuchtende knallige Farben produzieren sondern mit etwas geschicktem Mischen auch natürlichere Töne treffen. Gefärbt habe ich wieder in der Mikrowelle. Mit der gefärbten Wolle habe ich auf meinem ausgeliehene Merino-Spinnrad mein erstes (unverzwirntes) Dochtgarn gesponnen. Ich hatte Mühe, dem Faden nicht zu viel Drall zu geben. Das Ergebnis gefällt mir auf jeden Fall sehr gut. Das Dochtgarn ist schön weich geworden und die Farbverläufe sind super- ein wahrer Regenbogen. | Two weeks ago 200 grams of nice white New Zealand lambs wool fell prey to a dyeing spree ;-) Again I used the microwave to fixate the color. I tried to get as many different colors from the easter egg dyeing tablets but I wanted them all a bit more on the cooler, blueish side. To tell the truth, I'm quite happy with the result. I think the teal wool is gorgeous as well as the blue/rose combination. I used the dyed roving to spin my first thick and thin single yarn on a spinning wheel. It wasn't easy to get the right amount of twist in it and not overtwisting it. The result is a gorgeous soft rainbow colored yarn.

Sockenwolle | Sock yarn

Mein neuester Färbeversuch: 100 g Sockenwolle mit Ostereierfarbe in Mirkowell knallgrün, gelb und orange gefärbt. Verstrickt gab das wunderbare Ringelsocken, die mit teurem gekauften Sockengarn à la Opal auf alle Fälle mithalten können. Ich habe von jeder Farbe jeweils 2 Tabletten benutzt. In Wirklichkeit sind die Farben sehr kräftig geworden und das grü ist wirklich grün und kein bißchen blau.| My latest dying session: 100 gr | 3.5 oz sock yarn dyed with easter egg dyes and microwave oven. I use 2 tablets green, orange and yellow to get really vibrant colors. In reality the green is really green and not blueish like the pictures. The resulting socks ended up beautifully striped and not less exciting than expensive commercial sock yarn à la Opal or Regia.

Wolle selbst färben | Dyeing your own yarn

> zoom	Dank der wunderbaren Yahoo!-Gruppe >BinesFarbenrausch, die sich dem Spinnen und Färben verschrieben hat, bin ich neugierig geworden auf das Thema färben. In einem Anfall von Enthusiasmus habe ich mir dann tatsächlich ein paar Päckchen Ostereierfarbe gekauft und los gings. Weiße Wolle auf Stränge wickeln, einweichen, Farbtabletten in Wasser auflösen, Essig dazu und dann Wolle mit der Farbe betröpfeln. Wenn die Farbe entsprechend verteilt war habe ich den Strang einfach in Frischhaltefolie gewickelt und das Ganze 4 Minuten in die Mikrowelle gesteckt. Dann noch auskühlen lassen, ausspülen und zum Trocken aufhä. Ich konnte gar nicht mehr aufhören. Insgesamt habe ich 6 Wollstränge gefärbt.
	Thanks to some cool Yahoo!-Groups I got curious about dyeing my own yarn. Food colours seemed the easiest way to go for a start. Since Easter is drawing near you can get these easter egg dyeing tablets everywhere for just a few cents. I got myself some packages and off I went. Wound some white wool into skeins, wet the skeins, dissolved the tablets, added some vinegar and poured it over the wet wool. Afterwards I wrapped the skein into cling film and put it into the microwave for about 4 minutes. Rinse, squeeze out and hang to dry - finished! I literally couldn't stop and did skein after skein. Wow, what a blast! :-)
	Und das habe ich genau gemacht (auf dem Foto von links nach rechts): Handgesponnene Wolle, 2-fädig: grüne und blaue Farbtablette zusammen aufgelöst + lila; Ergebnis ist eine recht gleichmäßig petrol-grüne wolle mit einigen etwas dunkleren Stellen. Sieht sehr gut aus und die Farbe ist recht intensiv. Maschinenstrickgarn, Kaschmir-/Merino-/Viskose-Gemisch, 2-fädig: Grün und Rot separat aufgetragen mit etwas gelb an einigen Stellen. Ergebnis ist ein Garn mit zahlreichen Farben von pink über zartes violett bis hin zu petrol und grün. Maschinenstrickgarn, Kaschmir-/Merino-/Viskose-Gemisch, 1-fädig: Gelb, Orange und Rot separat aufgetragen. Ergebnis ist ein knalliges Garn mit Farbverläfen von pink bis hin zu zartgelb. Einfach umwerfend! Maschinenstrickgarn, Kaschmir-/Merino-/Viskose-Gemisch, 1-fädig: Orange, Gelb, Blau und Violett separat aufgetragen. Im Ergenis gab das ein sehr stark meliertes Garn das von zartbraun über kräftiges blau, leichtes grün bis hin zu lila alle möglichen Farbtöne annimmt. Sieht auch total stark aus.
	And that's what I did in detail (see the picture from left to right): Handspun yarn, 2-ply: 1 green and 1 blue tablet dissovled together and 1 violet tablet in a separate cup. The result is a very deep teal tone with darker spots where I dripped the violet dye on it. It's a really nice and intensive colour. Lacewheight yarn, Cashmere-/Merino-/Viskose-Blend, 2-ply: Green and Red dripped on the skein separately. In the end it made a variegated yarn with colors from light violet and rose, mergeing into a deeper purple, teal and green. Looks very nice. Lacewheight yarn, Cashmere-/Merino-/Viskose-Blend, 1-ply: Orange, yellow and red. This one ended up as a vibrant yarn with colors ranging from pink over orange to a light yellow. This one is really stunning. Lacewheight yarn, Cashmere-/Merino-/Viskose-Blend, 1-ply: Yellow, orange, blue and violet added separately. That combination made for a somewhat crazy combination of different browns, greens, blues and violets. I kind of like the subdued combinations and think it would make a nice scarf/shawl.
